I sent the following email out to my clients about an interesting issue with Panda Antivirus 2008. Anyone finding a resolution please comment on this blog please.

Dear Client,
Please be advised of the following – during a customer call the affected computer displayed symptoms that indicated a virus was present. The user could start the computer normally and boot into Vista but if any programs where selected to be opened an error occurred as described below.
Emerging Support Issue
Affected Computers: Currently users running the Windows Vista Operating System and Panda Antivirus 2008
As follows:

Panda AV just deleted Wininet.dll & mseo.dll

Panda AV updated with 2 new signatures this am. After it said it found a worm & was deleting. Then it recommended restarting Vista. After I did I was notified on startup that those 2 DLLs were gone. Windows Mail was hosed, etc. The incident log in the AV program shows no data as to anything found or disinfected this am. Tech suport at Panda isn’t answering. Any help would be appreciated.
The cause of this problem is currently unknown. The indications are that the update was defective and caused the problem. Any client using Panda AV 2008 that automatically updates the virus definitions may be affected.
Researching. There is a resolution and there is one computer vendor in Waterloo that installs Panda AV 2008 as part of their disk image is aware of a fix and can implement it. If you are affected please contact me immediately and I will assist in resolution.
